Young Irelands: youngirelands.northamerican.gaa.ie: was founded in 1985 in the then famous Travers Irish House, Upper Darby, the home to thousands of Irish immigrants. Over the years many Clubs in the Philadelphia Board have folded but Young Irelands remain strong. Although a small Club, we are a player oriented organization. Most of our players/members have historically come from Ulster, especially Tyrone and Derry. However players and members from anywhere are welcomed and invited to participate in all Club functions. We are based in the western suburbs of Philadelphia, in Havertown. Many of our functions are held at Paddy Rooneys Pub in Havertown. Paddy is a Club member and former Chairman of the NACB.
Young Irelands GFC won the North American County Board Intermediate Football Championship in 1989 and were runners up twice.
In the last few years American born players coming from the youth clubs in the area have become old enough to become Club members/players and have helped rejuvenate Club membership.
We train at the Drexel Hill Middle School on State Rd., Drexel Hill, Pa. in Upper Darby. Interested parties may contact the PRO @ mcginlm@lmsd.org
